Cosmetic dentistry can change not only your appearance, but your outlook on life.
At Lantern Dental, we create smiles that our patients love. After our team has helped you achieve the smile of your dreams, the transformation in your social and professional relationships may amaze you.
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic, bonded to the front of your teeth. They can improve the appearance of gaps, chips, cracks, discolouration, and misalignment in teeth. The layers of translucent, all-ceramic porcelain allow light to shine through, reflecting off the opaque tooth dentin below the surface and giving the appearance of brighter, natural-looking teeth.
Preparing for Porcelain Dental Veneers
During your initial consultation at our practice, you will discuss your aesthetic goals for correcting and improving your smile with one of our dentists.
The design specifications for your new teeth will be given to the lab regarding the shape, colour, and translucency of your new veneers. The cosmetic dentist will then arrange your follow-up appointments and tell you what to expect over the next few appointments.
During the second appointment, the dentist will prepare your teeth for your new porcelain veneers. Doing so requires buffing off about half a millimetre of tooth enamel to adjust for the added thickness of the veneers. This is a painless procedure.
After your teeth have been prepared, we will take a mould of your mouth to send to the laboratory, where they will craft your porcelain veneers to match your teeth. Making a natural looking porcelain veneer is an art form, that’s why we use only the very best dental labs.
While your porcelain veneers are prepared we will bond temporary veneers to your teeth so that you can get used to the new shape of your teeth while you wait.
Placing Your Porcelain Veneers
After two or three weeks, your porcelain veneers will be ready. On your return to our practice, you will be able to examine the veneers to assess whether you are satisfied with the colour and shape. They will then be permanently cemented to your teeth.
After the Procedure
After your porcelain veneers have been permanently fixed to your teeth, you should care for them just as you would natural teeth. Regular brushing and flossing will maintain them over time. It should take several weeks for you to adjust to the new feel of your teeth, but very soon, they will feel absolutely natural.
Porcelain veneers are not the only option for restoring broken, chipped, or discoloured teeth. There are other cosmetic dentistry alternatives to consider. Porcelain crowns, composite bonding, and teeth whitening can all improve the aesthetics of your smile.
Porcelain Crowns and Bridges
Porcelain crowns protect and cover cracked or damaged teeth while restoring your smile to its original strength and beauty. At the Lantern House Dental Practice , we place our all- porcelain crowns with care.
Overview of Porcelain Crowns
A fractured or cracked tooth, untreated decay, or an old, large filling may leave teeth susceptible to further damage and cavities that can cause painful toothaches. To protect the remaining tooth structure as well as the pulp of the tooth, the dental professionals at Lantern Dental will cover such teeth at our practices. They will guard your teeth against further damage while also restoring their beauty. In fact, all-porcelain ceramic crowns are one of the most aesthetically pleasing options for repairing damaged teeth.
Placing porcelain crowns will take two visits. During the first visit one of our experienced dentists, will remove the decayed tooth material and reshape the tooth to accept the crown. Afterwards, they will take an impression of your tooth and place a temporary crown over it. The temporary crown, made of composite resin, will ensure that the damaged tooth doesn’t move and that there is no further wear to the tooth structure while the permanent crown is being prepared.
After they are ready to be placed, you will again visit our practice. We will remove the temporary crowns and replace them with the permanent ones. Before cementing them in place, we will check to make sure the shapes and colours are consistent with your surrounding teeth. After undergoing this treatment, not only will your bite be stronger and healthier, but also the appearance of your smile will be improved.
